On the North Side of Williamsburg Brooklyn, when bullet-proof glass still covered restaurant windows, “ladies of the night” strolled buckled sidewalks and phone booths were not only present, but occasionally worked, Maria moved into one of Alexander Boitson’s brownstone apartments. Over the years he watched his tenant travel back and forth to her family’s Long Island restaurants, Piccolo and The Mill Pond; two places she loved, but were not her own. Especially fond of Maria, “Al” offered several times to assist her in starting a business, and just as often, she declined. The two maintained a lively correspondence, even as Maria made her life in the Hudson Valley and Al remained in Brooklyn, contrasting the changing neighborhood with the one he returned to, a young sailor after WWII. Upon his passing in 2007, Maria was shocked to find herself among the chief beneficiaries of his estate – certainly enough to open her own place, in her own way. Born of friendship, Boitson’s restaurant opened on June 4, 2010 as a bit of a living memorial, where an old, sometimes rough-talking, Ukrainian-American sailor could get a decent plate of oysters and everyone is warmly welcomed.

The Hoffman House restaurant, in the scenic Hudson Valley, started as a labor of love by Pat and Ginny Bradley back in 1975. After two years of intense restoration, The Hoffman House opened for business in June of 1977. Registered on the National Landmark of Historic Places, the building is a fine example of Early American Dutch rubble architecture featuring wide planked random width board floors, a fire place in each of the main rooms and many small multi-level rooms. The Hoffman House is located at the corner of the historic Stockade district in Kingston NY, and once served as fortification and lookout against Indian attacks. Today the Hoffman House serves a continental fare, featuring steaks, fresh seafood, pasta specialties and homemade artisan desserts. An open-air, beautifully landscaped garden patio, enhances outdoor dining in the summer, while you can cozy up next to one of our three large stone fireplaces in the winter. The Hoffman House, which is known for our generous lunch and dinner portions, also offers a lite fare tavern menu. This nightly menu features our famous burgers, sandwiches, oversized salads, quesadillas, wings and more.

At Kingston Bread + Bar, we believe in feeding and supporting our community with the best handmade bread, fresh food, and beverages in the Hudson Valley. We work with local food suppliers, breweries, and vineyards to connect our patrons with their neighbors, and we strive to make every person who up to our window feel like a guest—not a customer. All of our bread is made with natural leaven (a sourdough starter, instead of commercial yeast) and is fermented for at least 24 hours. We use only organic flour, and strive to use as much local flour as we can. In addition to our signature loaves, we also bake a rotating assortment of croissants, cookies, and other sweet and savory pastries every Wednesday through Saturday. We also serve up more hearty breakfast and lunch options, including our classic egg sandwich on a milk-bread bun and our "Il Voltrono" Italian hoagie.

She has worked as a stylist on many Food Network shows including Paula’s Best Dishes, Paula’s Home Cooking, The Essence of Emeril, Semi-Homemade, and Food 911. She develops recipes for cookbooks, magazines, and websites. Maureen was an associate food editor at Family Circle and Good Housekeeping magazines. As a chef-instructor, she currently teaches at Sur la Table, and has taught at Peter Kumps (ICE), The New York Restaurant School,​ Classic Thyme, King’s Cooking Studio, and Warren Kitchen and Cutlery. Maureen is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and is a member of Les Dames d'Escoffier, New York and the New York Woman’s Culinary Alliance.
